Here’s another version of our HeartStrings Happy Blocks
- Quilt size = 51 x 68
- Block size = 8.5 inches finished (9 inches with seam allowances)
- Set blocks 6 across and 8 blocks down
You will need 48 charm squares or you can cut 5 inch squares from your stash.
Block A – brown frames – make 24 blocks
Block B – pink frames – make 24 blocks
Cutting fabric for frames – from both framing fabrics.
- cut 3 – 5 inch by width of fabric and cut into 2.5 inch sections
- cut 3 – 9 inch by width of fabric and cut into 2.5 inch sections
***My fabric was greater than 42 inches wide and I had over 2 yards of each but if your fabric is also greater than 42 inches and you cut it like described above and don’t make mistakes cutting, you should be able to frame all the blocks with 1.25 yards each of both framing fabrics. You’ll also want a half yard of one of your fabrics for binding
*** my fabric was NOT directional – please note that if your charms are directional, you’ll want to pay attention to how you piece the blocks so that when they are rotated in the quilt, your fabric will be right side up.
Block A will be rotated in the quilt with the long framing strip horizontal. Add the strips to the side of your charm square and press toward the strips, add top and bottom strips and press toward the strips.
Block B will be rotated in the quilt with the long framing strip vertical. If your charms are directional, make sure to piece blocks as shown below adding the strips to the top and bottom of your charm square first and press toward the strips, then add strips to the sides and press toward the strips.
Starting with Block A, alternate block setting them 6 blocks across and 8 rows down. See my photo at the top of the page.
