Blue 4 Patch Stars

This is a variation of my Four Patch Star quilt. I played with the design a bit so I could I could use either a 3 inch finished HST for a 12 inch block or use my GO 2.5 inch finished HST die which would make a 10 inch block. I might eventually make it in blue AND make a scrappy multicolored version too.

Right now I’m just jotting down some quick notes. When I make the quilt at some point, I will add in more details.

For a 12 inch finished block

  • Half square triangles for the star blocks should be 3 inches finished (3.5 with seam allowances)
  • Squares in the corners of the star blocks should be CUT 3.5 inches.
  • Strips for the 4 patch blocks (both the star center and the alternate block) should be CUT 3.5 inches. You could use squares that are cut 3.5 inches but I prefer to use strip sets.
  • Finished size as shown below without borders would be 60 x 84 with a 12 inch finished block.

For a 10 inch finished block

  • Half square triangles for the star blocks should be 2.5 inches finished (3 inches with seam allowances)
  • Squares in the corners of the star blocks should be CUT 3 inches.
  • Strips for the 4 patch blocks (both the star center and the alternate block) should be cut 3 inches. Again, you could use squares that are cut 3 inches if you prefer that.
  • Finished size as shown below without borders would be 50 x 70 with a 10 inch finished block.
